The Association will hold nine Regional Meetings this year to prepare for the implementation of NYSFDA’s new governance system, effective August 24, 2010. Each region will elect two representatives – a Regional Director and a Nominations Committee member.
The 2010 Regional Meeting will address important Association business and update you on pending legislation. Input from members is critical to a successful future for the Association and its continuing ability to serve members and funeral service with excellence.
This year NYSFDA is pleased to offer Preneed in New York State: An Overview of the Laws and Their Application, with 2 law CEUs.
Presenters:
Bonnie L. McCullough, CAE
NYSFDA Executive Director;
Randy L. McCullough
NYSFDA Deputy Executive Director; and
Colleen Connelly
NYSFDA Director of Preneed Trust Services.
This training will examine the variety of New York State laws that serve as the cornerstone for the state’s preneed system. Specifically, this includes the ways the laws work to make New York’s funeral service environment, in the legal and practical contexts, the best in the nation for both funeral directors and the consumers they serve each and every day. The session will cover provisions primarily from bodies of state law such as the General Business Law, Social Services Law, and Public Health Law.
The program will be introduced by a brief discussion about the “State of Preneed” across the nation. This will include a broad overview of laws, as well as some of the most notable preneed problems and challenges experienced in other states over the last few years and how they came about.
In addition, by reviewing the most frequently asked preneed “questions and answers,” the program will review how many of these laws apply to the day-to-day work of funeral professionals and the operation of a funeral home from the preneed perspective. The program will conclude with a period for questions and answers from participants.
